
CSI Lombard Hospital Recognized for Green Initiatives and Sustainable Healthcare Leadership - 2024

CSI Lombard Memorial (Mission) Hospital, Udupi, has been honored with a prestigious award by the Global Green and Healthy Hospitals (GGHH) network for its outstanding efforts in promoting sustainable healthcare. Dr Sushil Jathanna, Director of the hospital, accepted the award at the International Scientific Conference on Climate Change and Health, held in Hai Phong, Vietnam, from October 30 to November 1.
The conference, organized by global organizations such as Health Care Without Harm Southeast Asia, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), UNICEF, and UNDP, gathered healthcare leaders to discuss sustainable practices in the healthcare sector across Asia. Dr Jathanna expressed pride in receiving the award, calling it a significant milestone for the hospital's ongoing commitment to environmentally friendly healthcare practices in coastal Karnataka.
Lombard Hospital, founded in 1923, celebrated its 101st anniversary in 2024 with the launch of ‘INSPIRE,’ a comprehensive project aimed at addressing environmental challenges. This initiative focuses on renewable energy, water management, waste reduction, air quality improvement, biodiversity promotion, and public awareness.
The hospital is accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH) and is a member of the Public Health Foundation of India’s (PHFI) Health and Environment Leadership Platform (HELP), a network supporting sustainable healthcare practices across India.
